If the coming of Hiddink at Stamford Bridge has not heralded a spectacular upsurge in form, it has certainly led to greater solidity and consistency. This is why the midfielder, Frank Lampard, believes that few foes will relish taking on Chelsea over the remaining matches of the season, especially in the Champions League.
Chelsea easily slipped into the quarter-finals of the competition with a draw of two goals each side against Juventus in Turin this Tuesday night and an aggregate victory of 3-2. At times, Chelsea could have been overrun. At times Chelsea even appeared a class above their Italian rivals. Frank Lampard was too encouraged.
Frank Lampard said, “The way we are playing, maybe no one will want to face us.”
Lampard also adds, “When you get to this stage, your away performances are important and it is a good sign that we scored two goals against Juventus.”
Lampard further mentioned, “Away games may not always be the most beautiful performances and you have to be very strong at certain points in the game. You have to be very clever and we weren’t like that in the group games.”
Yes, it is true. In group A, in which Chelsea finished runners-up, they struggled to make any comfortable impression on their travels. They drew without any goals against Cluj in Romania, lost by 3-1 against Roma in Italy and drew with single goal each side against Bordeaux in France.
